Welcome to the Havana Brown Cats and Kittens Web site where you will find information about the rare Havana Brown Cat breed.  Also featured at this website are pictures, links, articles, responsible breeders, and catteries.

The rare -  Havana Brown cat breed originated as the result of breeding a black domestic cat carrying the brown recessive gene and a seal or chocolate point Siamese cat.  As the breed was undergoing further development, an occasional Russian Blue cat was also used.  Please read the articles on the origin for more information about the breed.  Did you know that the color "Brown" is one of the rarest colors and most difficult to achieve...

Kitten in picture on right was featured in the December 2005 Cat Fancy Magazine.

bulletComing Soon - Article on the "Puppy Dog Cat" known as the Havana Brown.  The Havana Brown breed is sometimes referred to as the "puppies of the cat fancy."  If you'd like to contribute your cats behavior to the article, please send me a short paragraph or two on their behavior and permission to reprint your article.  E-mail to Laudan Batino.

bulletCoat of a Different Color - Cats such as the Havana Brown with single-colored hair are called self or solid.  The cat's original coat was of color-banded or tabby hair, designed for camouflage in the natural environment.  Over time the tabby gene mutated, creating cats whose coat was only one color.  The tabby gene remained dominant, however, meaning self-colored cats must possess two copies of the recessive, non-tabby gene in order to conceal their "true" original tabby pattern.
