Nestled at the bottom of the Araquipa
Hills in Vacaville, California, Araquipa Cattery
specializes in breeding and raising beautiful, healthy, and affectionate
Havana Brown kittens for loving responsible homes. This rare
breed has a rich mahogany brown coat with vivid green eyes. Araquipa
Cattery is named after the rolling Araquipa Hills in Vacaville,
California. Araquipa translated (Indian) is "Peaceful."
Vacaville is located between San Francisco and Sacramento in northern
California.
My interest in the Havana Brown breed originated while I was in the Air Force stationed at Rhein-Main Air Base in West Germany in 1977. I lived in Frankfurt and purchased a Siamese kitten from a lady down the block. She also raised several other breeds including the Havana Brown cat. Unfortunately, she did not have any HB kittens at the time.
I consider myself very fortunate to have found several great mentors who have helped me learn about the breed. Several of my breedings include an outcross of a black domestic shorthair to a Havana Brown. I acquired an F2 male from Richard Bilello which resulted in producing 4 beautiful kittens (F3). Pictured below are three of the kittens who did well at cat shows. Champion Araquipa Shooting Star (Boris) on the left, was CFA's second highest scoring Havana Brown kitten in 1999-2000.
