Just a personal note on Cat Shows...
I enjoy exhibiting
and showing my cats in Cat
Shows. As a matter of fact, if you are a breeder, it is
expected that you show and exhibit your cats. Showing your
cats ensures you are maintaining certain breed standards and allows
you to obtain winner ribbons (rosettes) for your cats. While I think it is
important to enter Cat Shows to promote the Havana Brown Cat breed,
I DO NOT consider it my "purpose in life."
Maintaining my cattery, ensuring my cats conditions are healthy,
and giving my cats the proper attention (love) every day is my purpose in life.
There are
some individuals who will enter Cat Shows week after week after week and
make winning their sole "purpose in life." These
individuals measure their self-worth by how well their cats are
doing or how many ribbons or points their cats have won.
They also think that by having a winning cat, they are superior to
you. I'm sure you can imagine the negative politics involved
in cat shows. Thank goodness for the Judges. They
recognize and know who these individuals are and are not intimidated
by their gossip or behind the back tactics. It is comical to
watch, almost as good was watching the TV show Survivor.
Entering and going
to Cat Shows is a "hobby" for me. I enjoy going
several times a year with the intent of having fun, promoting the
breed, and meeting people. The Cat Shows I enter are primarily local in the
Northern California Bay Area. If you see me at a Cat Show,
drop by and say "Hi." I'll close by borrowing a line
I read in a recent e-mail... "We should support success and
encourage others..."
